Atlanta 2016 Call for Paper, Panel, and Workshop Proposals
The Society for Cinema and Media Studies announces its call for proposals for the 2016 conference.
Please join us Wednesday, March 30 – Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Hilton Atlanta.
In Atlanta, fine dining, shopping and rich history combine with inspiration-inducing attractions to create a city with Southern charm and world-class sophistication. It’s easy to see why Atlanta, Georgia is one of the most popular destinations in the Southeast to live and to visit. Atlanta is the primary transportation hub of the Southeastern United States, via highway, railroad, and air, with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport being the world’s busiest airport for the 15th straight year. Atlanta is home to Coca Cola, the Center for Civil and Human Rights, CNN, the world’s largest aquarium-Georgia Aquarium, the High Museum of Art, The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, and Centennial Olympic Park. Atlanta is also home to Emory University, Georgia State University, and the nation’s most prestigious historically Black colleges: Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College. Join us!
The 2016 SCMS Conference Program Committee welcomes quality paper, panel, and workshop proposals on any topic related to cinema and media studies.
The deadline for all proposals and waiver requests is Friday, August 28, 2015 (5:00 pm Central Time). The deadline has now passed. Notifications about the status of your proposal will be sent in mid-November.
For tips on how the proposal system works, character limits within each form, and other useful information, read SCMS Proposal Tips first. The submission system pages contain detailed guidelines and instructions for how to compose and submit proposals, as well as a lengthy FAQ section which will hopefully answer any other questions you may have.
You may access the Conference submission pages of our website here: Submission Forms.
Having problems finding presenters names in the proposal system? Before you create a new profile, contact the SCMS office. Help us prevent duplicate member records. We will happily check to confirm they are in the database.
We look forward to receiving your submissions for the 2016 SCMS Conference!
**New Policy** Artists, renowned scholars or filmmakers from other disciplines cannot receive registration &/or membership waivers in two consecutive years.
Note: Open call participants and graduate students do not qualify for these waivers.
A fee waiver for conference registration fees and/or membership fees may be granted in exceptional circumstances for artists or renowned scholars from other disciplines or filmmakers whose contributions would illuminate the panel or workshop topic. If chairs or organizers will be requesting a waiver for any panel or workshop participants, a fee waiver form (ONE waiver request per submission form) must be submitted online by August 28, 2015 (5pm CT).
If the conference program chair approves the waiver, the organizer of the panel or workshop along with the individual receiving the waiver will receive an e-mail notification from the SCMS office before the registration deadline of February 5, 2016 (5pm CT).
