Who We Are
Our mission is to facilitate interaction between U.S. and Latin American/Latino/a scholars and filmmakers and to support active linkages to Latina/o and Latin American film and television groups and publications, including those associated with other scholarly organizations and bearing international scope.
What We Do
We provide a forum from which to engage in the study of theory, history, and criticism and for the promotion of critical methods and theoretical approaches that center on Latina/o and Latin American representations and production within the realm of film and media culture. We promote these linkages via:
- our e-mail listserv
- through invitations to host international/national scholars and film/media artists at the annual Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference
- through the promotion of Latina/o filmmaking
- through the dissemination of scholarship and critical materials in English by Latin American and North American schoolars via translation projects.
We also provide access to Latin American/Latina/o film resources on our website and book table that we organize at the annual conference. To this end, the Latino/a Caucus organizes and hosts panels, workshops, screenings, caucus meetings and special events at the SCMS conference.
