Deleuze’s theory of cinema originates from a monistic ontology, which is foreign to the philosophical traditions that have informed most debates in film theory. This ontological genealogy poses a challenge to Deleuzian scholars: either remain within Deleuzian metaphysics and risk isolation, or extrapolate Deleuzian concepts to questions raised within other theoretical paradigms and risk leaving Deleuzian metaphysics behind. We are soliciting papers that address this question, either directly or indirectly: papers can extrapolate a Deleuzian concept to engage in a debate within another theoretical framework (psychoanalysis, phenomenology, analytic philosophy), discuss the benefits or risks of this extrapolation, critique a Deleuzian thesis from a foreign position, examine Deleuze’s practice of sodomizing other philosophers, or challenge an interpretation of a text by engaging with a Deleuzian concept. Please submit a 300 word abstract and a brief bio to by Sunday, August 7th.
