SCMS @ 50: Come and Enjoy the Celebration!
This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, a professional organization of college and university educators, filmmakers, historians, critics, scholars, and others devoted to the study of the moving image.
The Society will celebrate this special occasion at its 2010 meeting in Los Angeles, the historic home of the “Hollywood” film and television industries, from Wednesday, March 17th through Sunday, March 21st at the Westin Bonaventure. This year’s meeting will mark the largest conference in our Society’s history, with more than 1,500 registrants and more than 400 sessions taking place over the course of five days. In recognition of the increasing international scope of SCMS, the growth of media studies as a discipline world-wide, and the combination of the 2009 Tokyo and the 2010 Los Angeles programs, the theme of this year’s conference is “Celebrating Fifty Years: Archiving/Screening/Mobilizing the Pasts and Futures of SCMS.” Special Events for SCMS 2010 |
