2010 Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference
Los Angeles, CA
March 17-21, 2010

The 2010 SCMS Conference will be held March 17-21 in Los Angeles, the historic home of the “Hollywood” film and television industries. In recognition of the increasing international scope of SCMS, the growth of media studies as a discipline world-wide and the planning for both Tokyo (SCMS at 50/Tokyo: Mobilizing the Future/Screening the Past) and Los Angeles (SCMS at 50: Archiving the Future/Mobilizing the Past), the combined theme of the conference will be “Celebrating Fifty Years: Archiving/Screening/Mobilizing the Pasts and Futures of SCMS.”

The conference will be held at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in downtown Los Angeles, will celebrate the 50th year of our scholarly association, and will include elements of the 2009 Tokyo conference program, which was unfortunately cancelled due to concerns about the H1N1 virus.

The landmark hotel is located in the heart of the downtown business district (404 South Figueroa Street). The conference will begin Wednesday, March 17 and run through Sunday, March 21, 2010. With its five stunning glass towers, the Westin is one of the most photographed buildings in Los Angeles and is widely regarded as a “City-within-a-City,” occupying an entire city block with over 40 specialty boutiques, restaurants and lounges, a landscaped outdoor pool deck and the largest hotel spa in Los Angeles.
