JANUARY NEWS BRIEF
Plans for the 51st SCMS conference are well underway. We have a
tremendous line-up of sessions (more than 300 panels and workshops!) on a wide
range of topics, with presenters coming from around the world to take part. We
are happy to announce that this year, in response to membership request, we
will have not one but two receptions,
on Thursday and Saturday nights respectively. We are also arranging other
special events and meetings, as are individual Caucuses and Scholarly Interest
Groups. (The Queer and Latino/a Caucuses will be celebrating their 20th
anniversaries.) In addition we will feature 15 screening sessions showcasing
feature length fiction films, documentaries, and animated work. Many engage
with the conference theme of "Media Citizenship."
To introduce new members and first-time SCMS conference goers to
the Society we are arranging two special orientation meetings, to be held
Thursday and Friday at 11 a.m. till noon. Please join us to exchange ideas and
learn about the many opportunities SCMS offers. Our annual Members' Meeting
will be held Friday at noon. Lunch will be served. Everyone is welcome to
attend any or all of these sessions.
SPECIAL BONUS: In
response to membership desire also, THIS year free wi-fi will be available in
all conference meeting rooms.
