SCMS WEBSITE CONTENT MANAGER

The Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) wishes to hire a part-time Website Content Manager (WCM) who will work with the Board of Directors and the Home Office Staff to create original content for the SCMS website, to gather institutional data, and to be responsible for regular maintenance and updates. The WCM will serve a two-year term with the possibility of renewal, and will be supervised by one or more SCMS officers or Board members. This new position will require in-depth familiarity with the current website. The successful candidate should be comfortable undergoing training to learn the content management software of the website so that s/he can create new content, troubleshoot minor problems, access data and serve as the primary website administrator. The work is not location specific and coordination with supervisors will take place at a distance. The WCM will be an ex-officio member of the SCMS Board and is expected to attend Board of Directors’ meetings and the annual conference. (Travel funds and/or per diems will be made available should the successful candidate's home institution not provide adequate financial support). Given the nature of this position, we cannot provide benefits as part of the compensation. The successful candidate must be a member of SCMS and maintain membership throughout her/his time as WCM.

The position is part-time at $15/hour, 15 hours/week for 48 weeks ($10,800).

The Website Content Manager’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • writing original material for the website (from conference registration pages to faculty profiles).
  • gathering and collating data about current membership
  • working with the Home Office to support membership campaigns, conference registration, and other important functions of the website.
  • working with SCMS committees, Board Members and staff to explore and develop relationships with vendors and sponsors for the website.
  • assisting the online portion of the annual conference.
  • assisting SCMS officers, Board members and staff with strategic SCMS initiatives.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • experience with web content management software and comfort with learning new software programs
  • familiarity with data analysis and assimilation/organization of large amounts of data, as well as data management and spreadsheet software (especially Excel)
  • pro-active and self-directed person with strong problem-solving skills
  • a commitment to the development of SCMS.

Interested applicants should prepare a current CV and a letter of application listing website and research/analysis experience, background in media studies (cinema/TV/digital media), and ability to commit to this position given other responsibilities. A list of three references (including contact information by phone and e-mail) is also required.
