Career Achievement Award Committee

Formerly the Honorary Life Membership Award Committee, the Distinguished Career Achievement Award Committee solicits nominees annually from the SCMS membership. The committee may choose not to award an honorary membership every year. Nominations are submitted to and recorded by the SCMS office. The committee judges nominees on the following criteria:
(1) A record of distinguished contributions to the profession. Such contributions can be scholarly, artistic, archival or pedagogic in nature.
(2) Contributions should have been made over a substantial period in time, thus, awardees are at the senior stage of their careers.

Nominations are solicited from the general SCMS membership through a general mailing (the call for nominations is now included in the e-newsletter) (spring/summer) and polling of committee members will take place. The committee can choose not to award an honorary membership every year. The committee should have the recommendation of a nominee to the Board of Directors for approval by September 1 or the date of the fall Board meeting. Once a selection is made the winner shall be issued a special invitation to attend the annual conference to receive the award.
