Indigenous Membership

Lead by the work of the Antiracism, Equity and Diversity Committee and the Board of Directors, SCMS has introduced a new membership category for our Native and Indigenous members, as SCMS continues to expand its capacity as an equitable and anti-racist organization. With the introduction of this program, we’ve welcomed new members into our organization and initially saw an increased presence of Native and Indigenous scholars at our last in-person conference in 2019 in Seattle, Washington. This new program for Native and Indigenous media scholars will provide the following benefits for the first two years of membership.

  • Year One: Native and Indigenous media scholars joining SCMS for the first time receive waived membership and conference registration fees for one year.
  • Year Two: Native and Indigenous media scholars who have been SCMS members previously receive waived conference registration fees for one year.

If you are interested in joining SCMS and are a Native/Indigenous scholar, please click here to join and select the Indigenous Membership category.  If you have questions about the Indigenous Membership program, benefits, or waivers, please contact the SCMS Home Office.
