HistoryHonoring the memory of USC professor Katherine Singer Kovács, this award is given to the best essay (not exceeding 20,000 words) published in a journal. An award of $500 will be given to the winner. A certificate of citation will also be awarded to the winner. Eligibility- To be eligible, essays must appear in a journal issue published between August 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024.
- They should be original works that significantly advance scholarship and thinking in the field either by opening up new lines of inquiry or by consolidating existing ones at a high level of accomplishment.
- Publishers and journal editors will be invited to nominate essays, but individual SCMS members should feel free either to submit copies of articles directly or urge their publisher or editor to do so.
- Authors may self-nominate.
- Book chapters from edited collections are not eligible.
- Essays may not exceed 20,000 words.
Procedures- Entrants must complete the submission form through the Awards portal by the annual deadline.
- The essay should be saved in PDF format (not exceeding 30MB) and uploaded on the submission form.
- Failure to follow procedures will result in disqualification.
