Distinguished Career Award Committee
Share |

The Distinguished Career Achievement Award Committee (formerly, the Honorary Membership Award Committee) reviews the nominations for this award which are submitted annually from the SCMS membership. This award was established to recognize and celebrate the distinguished achievements of established scholars in cinema and media studies. Unlike the other SCMS award committees, the term of service on this committee is three years. Committee members usually serve staggered terms. The committee judges nominees on the following criteria: (1) A record of outstanding contributions to the profession. Such contributions can be scholarly, artistic, archival or pedagogic in nature. (2) Contributions should have been made over a substantial period in time, thus, awardees are at the senior stage of their careers. The committee can choose not to award a Distinguished Career Achievement Award in any given year. Multiple nominations of the same scholar should not determine the committee’s final decision, and only one award winner per year can be selected. The Committee should send the name of the nominee to the Board of Directors for approval by February 1. Once a selection is made, the SCMS office will send the winner a special invitation to present an address and receive the Distinguished Career Achievement Award at the annual award ceremony at the conference.
