(formerly the Sound Studies SIG)
Who we are
The Sound and Music Studies Interest Group was formed to encourage and develop the study of sound and music media across academic disciplines, bringing together scholars and practitioners working in the fields of cinema studies; radio, television and communication; new media studies; popular and classical music studies; and cultural studies. Our mission is to provide a much-needed forum for scholars and students to present new research in sound and music media and to help shape these evolving interdisciplinary fields.
What we do
We aim to provide a forum in which scholars and students of sound and music media can present and discuss their work, organize panels, and propose workshops for the annual conference, and work together to accomplish the goals and objectives of the group. We also seek to foster an awareness of sound and music related issues in film and media, and to encourage new research and further scholarship in these areas. Our SIG seeks to recognize emergent work in these fields through awards as well as foster the discipline through remote events (e.g., book talks, roundtables) outside the annual conference. We encourage SIG members to contact co-chairs with ideas for such events.
