Formerly the Urban Studies SIG
Questions of space, place, and the built environment have become more prominent in film and media studies in recent decades. The Urbanism/Geography/Architecture Scholarly Interest Group provides a scholarly “home” for those interested in questions of urbanization and inequality, ways that multiple media platforms shape experiences of place and the built environment, and intersections of human movement and media—to name just a few of our members’ interests. In addition to connecting scholars within SCMS, the UAG SIG also works with scholars in associated disciplines of urban studies, cultural and critical geography, and architecture to host multi-disciplinary conversations at the SCMS conference and online via our Facebook page. Also at the SCMS conference, the UAG SIG organizes workshops on pedagogy and on new directions of our field, and sponsors events that connect to our host city. Between conferences, members keep each other informed of developments in the field and facilitate the mentorship of junior scholars.
